Illinois Harassment Training for Supervisors


Note: This course is a state-specific course designed to meet the needs of most employers in Illinois. However, this course does not meet the requirements of Illinois "Supplemental" sexual harassment prevention training for restaurant workers under Section 2-110 of the IHRA. If you are in the following states, you must take the state-specific courses in the following links: Maine, California, Connecticut, and Delaware. Those in other states should take the universal course.

Illinois Harassment Training for Supervisors is a comprehensive training program aimed at educating and informing supervisors about preventing and addressing harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in the workplace.

The course covers legal definitions, the responsibilities of supervisors, interactive activities, and practical strategies for preventing and addressing such behaviors. Key topics include effective communication, recognizing and reporting incidents, conducting investigations, and supporting affected employees.

The training was created by subject matter expert and attorney Andrew Easler, Esq, and is designed for supervisors and managers in Illinois who are responsible for promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.

The Illinois Harassment Training for Supervisors training program is designed to educate and inform supervisors on the importance of creating a workplace free from harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

Created to exceed the minimum requirements of Section 2-109 of the Illinois Human Rights Act (775 ILCS 5/2-109), this course utilizes key elements of the Illinois model sexual harassment prevention training program to cover necessary topics including, but not limited to:

  • An explanation of the term sexual harassment as it is used under Illinois law;
  • Examples of conduct constituting unlawful sexual harassment;
  • A summary of relevant federal and State statutory provisions concerning sexual harassment, including remedies available to victims of sexual harassment; and
  • a summary of responsibilities of employers in the prevention, investigation, and corrective measures of sexual harassment.

In addition, this course includes the legal definitions of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, as well as the responsibilities of supervisors in preventing and addressing these types of behaviors in the workplace. 

Throughout the course, participants will engage in comprehensive videos and interactive activities that will help them understand the impact of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation on employees and the organization. Participants will also learn practical strategies for identifying, preventing, and addressing harassing, discriminatory, and retaliatory behavior.

Additionally, the course will cover important topics such as:

  • How to effectively communicate with employees about harassment and discrimination policies and procedures
  • How to recognize and report incidents of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
  • How to conduct effective investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
  • How to provide support and resources to employees who have experienced harassment, discrimination, or retaliation

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the laws and regulations surrounding harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in the workplace, as well as the skills and knowledge they need to prevent and address these behaviors effectively.
