Delivered across five video modules with approximately 45 minutes of training, including 25 minutes of instruction and an additional 15 minutes allocated for the end-of-course exam, this course reinforces the regulatory knowledge and practical skills learners need to perform compliant, thorough vehicle inspections every day on the road.
Grounded in 49 CFR Parts 380, 392, 393, and 396, the course guides learners through the complete inspection lifecycle. Throughout the five modules, learners will understand the legal and regulatory requirements for conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections under 49 CFR 396.13 and 396.11. Learners will identify their specific responsibilities as drivers regarding vehicle safety under 49 CFR 392.7, master systematic vehicle inspection techniques, and develop proficiency with air brake system testing and functional systems checks. The course emphasizes the critical importance of accurate Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports and helps learners understand the consequences of falsified or incomplete inspections.
The final module focuses on applying CVSA Out-of-Service criteria to make sound decisions about vehicle operability and readiness for roadside inspections. By completion, learners will have the regulatory foundation and practical knowledge needed to maintain compliance, ensure vehicle safety, and operate with confidence on the road. Each module includes knowledge checks to reinforce learning and retention.
