DOT Breath Alcohol Technician Training
Certificates are valid in the United States, Canada, and any country that uses US DOT regulations. This course includes training on DOT and NON-DOT protocols and on one EBT device. Learners are required to provide their own supplies and testing device.
The DOT Breath Alcohol Technician Training was developed by Attorney Andrew Easler, a leading expert in drug and alcohol testing and drug-free workplaces. Training instills the fundamentals of both DOT and non-DOT breath alcohol testing and aslo qualifies the technician to conduct testing.
Training will take approximately eight hours, consisting of self-paced online modules, live virtual demonstrations, and scenario training, ensuring learners have the knowledge and hands-on experience to conduct breath alcohol testing effectively. It also includes training on one EBT (Evidential Breath Testing) device to acquaint learners with real-world testing tools.
This course requires learners to have an Evidential Breath Testing Device (EBT) and enough mouthpieces to complete mock demonstrations. We recommend 10 Alcohol Testing Forms (ATFs), 10 spare mouthpieces, and tamper-evident tape if your EBT Device does not print tamper-evident self-adhesive labels. Recommended devices we provide training on include Lifeloc, Intoximeters, Draeger, and Alcovisor.
Designed in strict adherence to federal HHS and DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40, the course covers foundational knowledge, qualification training, and seven initial proficiency demonstrations and incorporates common scenarios that technicians may face in the field, ensuring learners are well-prepared for a wide range of testing situations.
Breath Alcohol Technicians (BATs) are crucial in maintaining drug and alcohol-free workplaces. Their primary function involves administering on-site breath tests to ascertain an employee's level of impairment. Unlike urine specimen collections, breath tests administered by BATs provide immediate, on-site results following an initial screening and a subsequent confirmation test. DOT Breath Alcohol Technician training is an 8-hour course that complies with federal HHS and DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40.213(a-c).
The course was designed around three fundamental benchmarks: basic information, qualification training, and a robust series of seven initial proficiency demonstrations. A notable advantage of this course is that it qualifies individuals to conduct non-DOT breath alcohol tests in accordance with most state laws.
Learners start with a self-guided online course, allowing them to proceed at their own pace. The training incorporates diverse learning materials such as instructional videos, reference documents, resources, and interactive presentations. To ensure the practical application of theory, the course also includes virtual mock demonstrations (mocks) that depict common scenarios technicians will encounter. These will be conducted via webcam at no extra cost, allowing students to apply what they've learned in a realistic setting.
Training will qualify learners as DOT Breath Alcohol Technicians and is intended for a broad range of professionals, including new BATs seeking foundational training, seasoned BATs requiring a refresher, business owners, supervisors, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory technicians, safety officers, and more. With this qualification, individuals can better support their organization's commitment to a drug and alcohol-free working environment.
Upon completing the online examination, learners can instantly download a certificate of completion as a tangible testament to their newly acquired skills and knowledge.
