DOT HHS Oral Fluid Specimen Train-the-Trainer
NOTE: THIS COURSE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE UNTIL ORAL FLUID IS OFFICIALLY ADOPTED BY A FEDERAL AGENCY ADMINISTERING A DRUG TESTING PROGRAM.
This course will qualify you to train others to collect oral fluid specimens in accordance with a federal Drug-Free Workplace Program.
Section 4.4 of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) Oral Fluid Mandatory Guidelines (OFMG) provides the requirements for those who would train others to collect saliva specimens under federal protocols.
Specifically, the OFMG provides that in order for a collector trainer to be qualified to train others, the prospective trainer may enroll in a “train the trainer” course and then must complete collector refresher training every five years and must maintain record of training which must be available upon request.
Our Train-the-Trainer courses are designed to exceed basic skills learned in the DOT / HHS Oral Fluid Specimen Collector Course and ensure that trainers are qualified to prepare others to perform oral fluid collections under federal protocols.
A trainer’s understanding of the collection process must go far beyond the initial training requirements for collectors and include a thorough understanding of the regulations, problems in collection, location of helpful resources, and contact information for relevant agency guidance when necessary.
Successful trainers will be able to teach and verify retention of required knowledge for collectors as outlined in the regulations, be knowledgeable about every federal agency under which collectors will be trained, and be intimately familiar with the oral fluid collection device or devices that will be used to train others. Successful trainers will also know each step of the collection process, the appropriate method of completion and distribution of the Federal Custody and Confrol Form (CCF), be familiar with common and uncommon problem collections, fatal flaws, and methods for correction of problem collections.
Most importantly, successful trainers will be able to adequately convey to collector trainees the role of the collector and the responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the collection process, privacy of the donor, security of the specimen, and how to avoid conduct or statements that could be viewed as offensive or inappropriate.
If you would like to become qualified to simply collect oral fluid/saliva specimens rather than train others to do so, enroll in our DOT / HHS Oral Fluid Specimen Collector Course instead.
